On The “Love Our Lakes” Project
October 19, 2011 "Love Our Lakes" Project, Environmental

The project itself has three basic parts; property acquisition, development and endowment to maintain it for future generations. Ultimately the community will have come together so people will have a beautiful public space and a view to be enjoyed for generations to come. Assuming we can get all three of these done, the project will be turned over- at no cost – to the City of La Porte.
- Acquisition: The property has been secured, but funds must be raised to repay the costs. A capital campaign will be conducted for that purpose. Susan Aaron, community leader, businesswoman, and former Unity Foundation board member is the chairwoman of the “Love Our Lakes” Campaign.
- Development: The La Porte Park Foundation has pledged funds and resources to help develop the property. The Park Foundation‘s first contribution will be to clear the property, creating a ‘canvas upon which we can paint’ a new vision for the property. A process for design is being developed.
- Endowment: The Unity Foundation plans to create a permanent endowment fund to maintain the property, so it will always be a point of pride at La Porte’s front door. Self-sufficiency for the property was identified as being critical so as not to be a new burden to already stressed budgets.
