J. Robert and Marjorie Miller Teacher Advancement Fund
The J. Robert and Marjorie Miller Teacher Advancement Fund was started in 2007 to promote teacher excellence within the La Porte Community Schools.
About Bob and Marjorie Miller
Bob and Marjorie Miller made important, lifelong contributions to public education in the La Porte Community Schools and shared a passion about the value of education.
The J. Robert and Marjorie Miller Teacher Advancement Fund promotes teacher excellence through professional enrichment, renewal and revitalization leading to more engaged teaching and more engaged students within the LaPorte Community School Corporation. The Fund provides grants for advanced education opportunities not normally provided by the corporation, such as summer programs, projects, internships and site visits, to learn new skills or improve existing ones. As examples:
In 2012, Donna Hale from Lincoln Elementary attended the “Teaching with Poverty in Mind” seminar. She reported gratefully, “I now have even more strategies and insight to help my students’ needs.”
Since 2011, Bonnie DeWolf’s Boston Middle School students are benefiting from enhanced history lessons after she participated in the Civil War Washington D.C. Teacher Fellows institute.
