Fund Story

Debbie received her degree in Elementary Education from Purdue North Central with an endorsement for Reading. She taught in the Michigan City Area Schools, first with the Title One program then as a classroom teacher at Marsh Elementary. She also taught Sunday school at St. John’s Church in Michigan City. She was passionate about helping young children learn and succeed. Seeing a young child reading or a parent reading to their child always made her smile.

A kidney transplant recipient and a breast cancer survivor, Debbie was an advocate for the Indiana donor network and a champion for organ donation.

Debbie was always there when someone needed help and prioritized others ahead of herself. She brightened up the room with her smile, laugh and positive attitude. She is deeply missed by all who knew her. The hope for her foundation is to enable teachers to help more children learn, read and succeed.
