Fund Story

The La Porte County Symphony resides within the vibrant arts landscape of Northwest Indiana and serves the 110,000 residents of La Porte County and regions beyond, including the Southwestern area of Michigan. Now entering its 49th season, the LCSO is a cornerstone of the performing arts for the area. What began as a small community orchestra has developed into a highly visible semi-professional orchestra of 60 musicians serving audiences across seven counties.

The Orchestra season will feature the debut of Music Director, Dr. Carolyn Watson, and will include three symphonic subscription concerts. The season kicks off with Hoosier STAR, a trademarked gala fundraiser and vocal competition. In addition to contracted summer concerts, the LCSO presents their annual Holiday at the Pops event.

The LCSO presents a day of three back-to-back Children’s Educational Concerts each year for 6000+ students from La Porte Community Schools and surrounding area school corporations, senior living centers, and agencies working with individuals with intellectual disabilities. In addition, the LCSO is embarking on its third year of their “New Generations” initiative which includes partnerships with both the La Porte Community School Corporation and Michigan City Area Schools. Another facet of “New Generations” is their Student Apprentice Program where 5-6 talented high school musicians are chosen to be a part of the LCSO for an entire season. A third arm of “New Generations” is their partnership with Roxy Music and Drew’s Gift of Music where donated instruments are refurbished and loaned to music students who, otherwise, cannot afford to purchase or lease an instrument.
