Charles Westcott Youth Fund

The Charles Westcott Youth Fund was started in 2000 by the board members of the Elite Youth Center to keep Charlie’s memory alive for generations to come and to support education and recreational activities for youth in the greater Michigan City area.

Fund Story

When the board of the Charles Westctott Elite Youth Center decided it was time to sell the Center to the city, they used the funds to establish the Charles Westcott Youth Fund in honor of the man who mentored and nurtured countless children.  After returning from the service in 1947, Westcott began running the Center in Michigan City.  The Center provided evening and weekend sports, recreational and youth programs for thousands of kids, mostly low – average income families.   He valued education and hard work, and believed in “creating tomorrows” for the kids in his community.  Everyone at the Center knew they were loved and by Westcott; he was an inspiring force.  Westcott ran the Elite Youth Center for 40 years, and many of “Charlie’s kids” grew to become prominent members of their communities.

Westcott was awarded the prestigious Lifetime Contribution Award by the Northwest Indiana Quality of Life Council in 2004.
