Washington Park Zoo Fund

The Washington Park Zoo Fund was started in 1998 by caring Zoological Society board members to support animal care and habitat improvement.

The Washington Park Zoo is a small Zoo with a lot of WPA history located near the southern shore of beautiful Lake Michigan. The Zoo was founded in 1928 and is currently making improvements under a 5 master year plan.

The Zoo has a real focus on being a rescue for exotic animals in need of a safe home. Some of the Zoo’s residents are misplaced pets or confiscated since they were illegally owned, and others have suffered injuries that would make life in the wild impossible. Our Staff and Volunteers are dedicated to ensuring that all of our residents are given the best care possible for their health and mental enrichment needs.

Zoos are uniquely capable of making connections and inspire all ages to do their part to help save wildlife and wild spaces. Education runs through every aspect of the Washington Park Zoo through a variety of fun, engaging programs, and creating stewards of wildlife. We are committed to developing programs that are accessible and meet the needs of our diverse audiences and higher education standards. Our programs include special events, summer camps, outreach programs, in-house programs, tours, internships and scout programs
