Fund Story
John Lindborg and Christine Ring emigrated from Sweden to America in 1880. They were married in 1881 and settled in LaPorte County, Indiana. The union of these two individuals has produced a history of currently six generations, many of which still reside in LaPorte County.
The roots of this family were initially in agriculture. Yon and Alice Lindborg continued that focus in agriculture, operating YonEd Farm in Union Mills from 1975 until 2021. Yon and Alice were both graduates of Purdue’s Veterinary School and began as partners with Yon’s parents, Warren and Dorothy Lindborg, in the dairy and crops farm. At its zenith, the farm produced seven million pounds of milk per year and farmed 1100 acres. The farm was sold in 2021 due to health and labor issues.
Though the farm had no claims to the biggest or best in any category, it was a well-respected business in the community. Throughout the years, it employed numerous high school students and provided a starting point for at least two families in ongoing dairy businesses. Besides their commitment to the dairy business, the Lindborgs were also active participants in their communities of Christian faith, serving in Christian education and on church boards.
This scholarship is intended to provide an opportunity for an individual to gain knowledge in agriculture and business management, with the goal of providing food and service to the communities in which they live.
