Fund Story

The Jack and Shirley Lubeznik Scholarship Fund was established by Shirley Lubeznik in 1999 in honor of her husband, Jack. The couple moved to Michigan City in 1961 to open the town's first McDonald’s, located at 3507 S. Franklin St. Jack and Shirley's restaurant was one of the first 300 McDonalds in the country, and they went on to open additional locations in La Porte and Westville. Jack and Shirley were ardent supporters of many organizations and individuals, including the John G. Blank Center for the Arts in Michigan City. In 2002, Shirley responded to the Center's need for an expanded and improved facility by donating her corporate office building at 101 W. 2nd Street, now called the Jack and Shirley Lubeznik Center for the Arts.

In memory of their belief in this community, this scholarship is awarded to graduates from the public and parochial schools of Michigan City.
