Dear Friend, Community Leader or Business Person in Michigan City:
As you know, the festive season of Christmas 2012 is just a few short weeks away. It is an opportune time to reflect on the many blessings that we all cherish in our personal lives. However, there are many families in our community facing difficult times not only at this time of year, but EVERYDAY. The Michigan City Community is fortunate to have a vibrant Salvation Army, its facility and dedicated base of volunteers to serve the needs of thousands of people struggling in their day to day lives in having the basic food and shelter available for themselves and their family.
We invite you to pour coffee at the Annual McDonald’s Celebrity Coffee Pour on Thursday, December 13th anytime between 7:00 and 10:00 a.m. at the McDonald’s Restaurant, 3507 S. Franklin Street.
Encourage your family, neighbors, business associates and co-workers to come for breakfast and to be served by yourself, Ronald McDonald and other local officials. WEFM Radio will participate with a live broadcast, local children’s choirs will perform and there will also be drawings for fun prizes.
Proceeds from the sale of coffee on this day will be given to the Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Campaign; a kettle will be available inside the restaurant and volunteers will ring the bell outside near the drive thru.
In addition, the following dates require VOLUNTEERS at the Salvation Army located at 1201 Franklin Street; PLEASE encourage fellow employees, family or friends to give some time to help do the following:
-
Saturday, December 15th – Sort food, pack baskets, set up toy, new clothing and bookstore; 9 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
-
Tuesday, December 18th – Deliver food baskets to shut-ins; beginning at 9:00 a.m.
-
Wednesday, December 19th – Distribute food baskets and toys; 9:00 a.m. – Noon and 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
-
Thursday, December 20th – Deliver food baskets to families with no children; begin at 9:00 a.m. – Noon.
Other opportunities for your support: Donate a new toy(s) or book(s); Write a check and/or take up a monetary collection to benefit the Red Kettle Campaign; Volunteer as an individual, family or office group for an hour, afternoon or evening to ring bells throughout the season to collect funds in the famous Red Kettle Campaign which are staged throughout the community; Participate in Stuff-A-Sleigh at Al’s Grocery Stores at Karwick Road and Franklin Street locations on Saturday, December 8th by purchasing $5 bags of food and/or $5 meat certificates.
Please contact Denita Ton at the Salvation Army at 219-874-6885 to let her know when you are able to participate in any of these opportunities. Please join us by sharing your time and/or treasure this holiday season! By doing so, you will bring food, warmth, hope and joy to many families who otherwise would not be able to experience these things without YOU! We wish you and your family a joyous and safe holiday season!
Truly,
Glenn, Kathy & Sam Lubeznik
