The idea behind the addition of Andrew Avenue Outdoor Education and Recreation facility was not to simply create more soccer fields or basketball courts, but to create a space that fosters a sense of good health, confidence, and encouragement for kids, adults, seniors and families in La Porte County.
It’s all in the details. This amazing outdoor facility is set on 8.5 acres of lush green grass, woods, and provides endless possibility. The 3,200 square foot covered pavilion with restrooms, kitchen and picnic tables creates a central gathering place for soccer games, summer camp and special events.
Four expansive soccer fields provide the opportunity for youth in grades pre-k through five to learn sports skills and teamwork during the spring and fall seasons. Shaded underneath a large tree, an activity pad keeps kids moving all summer long with fun, cognitive activities like hopscotch, gaga ball, tether ball and more.
Walking trails wind through the woods to encourage the ultimate nature experience through discovery, education and inspiration.
This list of features does not stop there, the future of our Andrew Avenue Facility looks bright with the pending completion of a large Tree House playground where children will gather, play games and share with each other the joys of being young.
The La Porte County Family YMCA is truly blessed to have the vision of connecting community members through outdoor education and recreation become a reality. This was only possible due to the generous donations and commitment from the following donors and volunteers:
